28 FLOORS COMING TO YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD

Many of your neighbours are actively questioning the proposal going to Public Hearing on July 9th, 2020, for a new mixed-use development at Broadway and Birch. The original, approved plan called for a height of 16 floors – this developer is now going back to the City for an increase to 28 floors.  This will change our Fairview, Kitsilano, South Granville, and False Creek neighbourhoods' distinctive features and impact livability. Most importantly, it will create a precedent for future development along the Broadway Corridor.

We ask City Council to reject the 28 floor rezoning for 2538 Birch Street at the Public Hearing on July 9th, 2020, and we encourage the Jameson Development Corporation to proceed with the already-approved rezoning and in-process development application for 16 floors of rental housing on this site.

"As a renter in Fairview in a precarious position, I welcome development of rental housing. But I hope that such development would be done in a thoughtful way that respects the character of the neighbourhood and mitigates the negative effects on the existing residents. I think this building is too high...and what next?"
